universities over the years, and some of them 
offered him remarkably good deals. He never ever 
considered—and he told me this personally—
moving down there permanently.  He did take the 
Schweitzer Chair at Fordham but that was all, he 
meant to come back. He wasn’t fishing for 
possibilities, he had all kinds of possibilities and 
said no to them most of the time. So in a negative 
sort of way I could say that he never considered
